Home Nursing Techniques

So our TLE teacher gave us another task to make a blog entry so here it is:

1.  If you are a good home nurse, what are the various home nursing techniques that you need to apply that will make the patient feel comfortable and speed up the recovery?

-If I am a good home nurse, the home nursing techniques that I need to know is making an occupied or unoccupied bed and bathing a patient. Both of those are very essential on the comfort and speed up recovery of the patient. When the bad is comfy and nice, the patient will be able to relax which makes the person recover nicely. Second, when the person will be given a bath everyday, the patient will have proper hygiene so that the patient will not feel dirty or filthy while he is still sick.

2.  Why should the home nurse monitor the vital signs of the patient?

-The home nurse should monitor the vital signs of the patient because vital signs are very important to know what sickness the person is experiencing.

3.  How do you take the body temperature, pulse rate, respiratory rate and blood pressure of the patient?

- You take the body temperature using a clinical thermometer in a person's mouth, armpits, or rectum. The pulse rate will be known through counting your pulse per minute on your temple, middle of the arms, or your chest part. The respiratory rate may be discovered through how many breaths a person have per minute (how many times the chest rises). And lastly, you can get the blood pressure of the patient using a sphymomanometer. It is a device to know the blood pressure of a person.

4.  What are some practices that the home nurse must follow that will
           promote comfort to the patient?

- Some practices that a home nurse should follow is to be approachable, understanding, and cheerful at all times. A home nurse should also know some techniques like preparing a bed and bathing a patient.

5.  How will you differentiate signs from symptoms of illnesses and
           diseases?

-Signs are what a doctor sees, while symptoms are what a person experiences.

6.  If you are the doctor, what will be your basis in giving the diagnosis for your patient?

-If I am a doctor, my basis in giving the diagnosis for my patient is from what my patient say. The doctor doesn't experience what the patient experiences and that is the only basis to give the diagnosis. So it is better if the patient always tell the truth.

Matulog ng maayos, maligo ng maayos, para happy =))))

Making an occupied/unoccupied bed...

As a home nurse, making an occupied or unoccupied bed is one of the most important things to know. How can a patient be relaxed or comfortable if the bed is not comfy enough for a sick person? Sick na nga tapos pangit pa ang higaan, wala na to. HAHA. Anyway, it can help fasten the recovery of the patient by giving the person more comfort which is essential on being cured. After a tiring day, beds are always the one we will need to have a nice sleep. So, I can make the patient very comfortable and relaxed on his/her sleep through his/her wonderful bed and with that the patient will be happy despite the sickness that he/she has.

Bathing the patient...

There are a lot of reasons why the sick person should be given a bath and these include to (1) cleanse the patient, (2) refresh the patient, (3) relax the patient, (4) stimulate the circulation of the blood of the patient, (5) To serve s a form of exercise, and lastly, (6) to aid in the elimination of  the certain wastes of the body. But, for me the most important reason is to freshen that person up and for proper hygiene. Not because the person is sick, doesn't mean he/she can already be filthy. To make a sponge bath for a patient, you will need 2 big towels, 2 small towels, rubber sheet, a basin with warm water, soap, and light blanket. When you have those materials, you can already give a patient a bath.

The importance of a urinal is to be the one that a patient will use for excretory purposes when a patient is expected to remain bedridden for a long period of time. A back rub is made to refresh the patient. Cold compress is made to relieve pain or reduce inflammation while a hot compress is made to increase blood circulations and relieve the pain and congestion.

Administering of Medicine to the Patient

Since I was a child, I was already acting like a doctor, or should I say, I find their doings somehow fascinating. I am interested on their field of study. That's why when we tackled "administering medicine to the patient", I was really interested on it. Medicine is very important for a patient. Without proper medicine, the patient cannot fully recover.

There are a lot of rules when taking in the medicine so as a home nurse. You should make sure that it is the proper amount and the patient take it in the right time. When rules are not followed, there will be a big chance of the patient to recover slowly or worse, not recover at all. There are even rules on taking the temperature, and the checking of temperature of a patient is very important. So medicine should be taken really seriously because it is the cure the patient is clinging to.

When a person doesn't take medicine when he/she is sick, it's just like going to a war where you are not fighting. When you properly administer a medicine, the patient will surely recover on time or even ahead of it.  So when you are a home nurse, you should give the patient his/her medicine on time. You are responsible for giving it. Be serious about this things so that the patient will already fully recover.

Recycled Crafts Project :):

Our 3rd Quarter TLE project was recycled crafts....

Since I was a child, doing crafts is really not my thing. Every time I do something related to arts and crafts, I would just stop in anger because I just can't do it nicely. But recently, when we made our project, I was challenged because many of my group mates are really good in those stuff. There are various products that we made.

1. We made a bracelet using a yarn. Mostly, it is Macy and Shaira who did it because only the 2 of them really know how to make a crochet. It is very nice and usable even though it was only made of yarn. For me, it is best when it is used as a friendship bond. If we were to sell this, it would be 20-25 pesos each.

2. We made a small wallet using yarn. It was very cute and also usable. If we are going to sell it, for sure there will be a lot who will buy it. I think it is very useful for storing coins. If we were to sell it, it will be 30 pesos each.

3. We made a small bag using yarn. It was just 1 small bag since it was very hard to make. There are even small parts where Macy asked help from her grandmother. But mostly, it was her who made it. Again, even if it's just made of yarn, it was very nice and usable. Because the bag is big, maybe it will be for 50 if we were to sell it.

4. Lastly, we made a headband. We just bought a plain designed and colored headband and we already used recycled stuff (like old cloths and ribbons) to make it. All of us helped to do it. I even helped! So if someone will guess, it is quite easy to make. That's why I helped. =)) Maybe it would be 20 pesos each.

We made 4 products all in all. As I said in the first part, I'm not that into arts but still I was able to help. I provided some of the materials needed and also I helped making the headband. I also helped giving them ideas on what to make. I tried to help them with the crochets but I just really don't know how so I better not to help rather than destroy our product.

We were given merely a week to make all of this but still, we made it to the deadline and we made it nice. It felt very good because from the comments that our teacher gave to us. She told us very good comments and remarks for our products. And also, I think all our hard work paid off since many of our classmates likes our products, aside from the good comments our teacher gave.

It was a very happy experience =))))

Thank You Card =))))))))))

We made a thank you card for our TLE Class...

The thank you card is for anyone we choose to. Some made it for teachers, brother/sisters, mothers/fathers, or any of our loved ones. And just like some of my classmates, I made one for my mother. I made quite an effort on making my card. QUITE. Since I crammed because my submission is already late, I made it simple but I also made an effort. But even though it's simple, at least everything I wrote and made came from my heart for my mother to receive.

I made my letter short but full of meaning. Here is what I wrote:

Dear Mommy,

First of all, I'm very sorry for all the wrong things I've done to you. Even though I made those bad      things, don't forget that I'm very thankful for you are here in my life. I love you!

Even though it's short, everything that I wrote it truthfully and wholeheartedly so I was satisfied with my work. Mom was even laughing when she read my card because I'm really not used to doing this stuff these days because I find it corny. But still, she was happy to read it.

But aside all that, it gave me a nice feeling to say what I want to say to my mom even if it is in a form of writing. =))

It was also a nice experience.
